Google Chrome: Use after free in Passwords component
Summary
Google Chrome before 155.0.8059.79 contains a use-after-free flaw in the Passwords component. An attacker who has already compromised the renderer process can use a crafted HTML page to execute code outside the browser sandbox. The flaw is a sandbox-escape stage in an attack chain, not a standalone remote vulnerability, and it requires user interaction.
Affected
- Google Chrome desktop (Windows, macOS, Linux) before 155.0.8059.79
- Other Chromium-based browsers, such as Edge or Brave, must be checked against their own vendor releases
Fixed in
- Google Chrome 155.0.8059.79 (Linux) and 155.0.8059.79/.80 (Windows, macOS), per Google's Stable Channel Update of 13 October 2026 as reported by secondary sources
- Debian chromium 155.0.8059.79-1~deb12u1 (bookworm) and 155.0.8059.79-1~deb13u1 (trixie)
- Newer stable builds exist; verify the current version on Google's channel page
Workaround
None documented. Updating is the only documented fix.
Exploitation
- No evidence of exploitation in the wild found; CISA SSVC lists exploitation as none
- No public proof of concept found; Google restricts detailed technical information until most users are patched
- Reported by Xinyang Ge on 16 September 2026
Our recommendation
- Update Google Chrome on all desktops to the current stable version and verify each device
- Check Edge and other Chromium-based browsers for their own patches
- On managed fleets, consider restricting the built-in password manager by policy until patching is verified
- Monitor vendor advisories for changes in exploitation status
Public exploits
PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.

Original description (NVD)
Use after free in Passwords in Google Chrome prior to 155.0.8059.79 allowed a remote attacker who had compromised the renderer process to execute arbitrary code outside the sandbox via a crafted HTML page. (Chromium security severity: High)
