Google Chrome: Use-after-free in Media component allows code execution

CVE-2026-110139High 8.8

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

A use-after-free flaw in the Media component of Google Chrome allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code inside the browser sandbox. The attacker needs to lure a user to a crafted HTML page, so any browsing session is exposed until the browser is updated. Code execution is limited to the renderer sandbox; a full compromise would normally also require a sandbox escape, which is not described in the sources.

Affected

  • Google Chrome versions prior to 155.0.8059.79 (desktop)

Fixed in

  • Google Chrome 155.0.8059.79 or later (according to the CVE record).
  • According to the research notes, the vendor advisory lists 155.0.8059.80 for Windows and Mac. Verify against the vendor advisory.
  • Distribution packages: Debian fixed in 155.0.8059.79-1~deb12u1 (bookworm chromium). Ubuntu lists its chromium-browser package as not affected because it installs the Chromium snap; the snap update is the relevant path.

Workaround

  • No vendor-documented workaround. Updating is the fix.

Exploitation

  • No public proof of concept found. Tenable lists no known exploits.
  • No evidence of exploitation in the wild found in the sources reviewed.
  • A third-party tracker reports the CVE is not in the CISA KEV catalogue; this was not verified directly with CISA.
  • CISA SSVC assessment: exploitation none, automatable no, technical impact total.

Our recommendation

  • Update Google Chrome to 155.0.8059.79 or later (Windows and Mac: 155.0.8059.80 or later, per the vendor advisory) on all workstations and servers with a browser.
  • Verify the installed version on each endpoint instead of relying on automatic updates, and restart the browser after the update.
  • Prioritise browsing-heavy workstations.
  • Monitor the CISA KEV catalogue for changes.

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
