Komodo Periphery: OS command injection in container management
Summary
The Periphery agent of Komodo, used to manage Docker environments on servers, contains an OS command injection flaw in its container management. An authenticated user with Execute permission, or Read plus Logs permission, on a managed server can inject shell metacharacters through a container name in the DestroyContainer or SearchContainerLog operations. The injected commands run as root on the managed host, so users without the Terminal permission can gain host-level control.
Affected
- Komodo Periphery agent 2.2.0 (CERT/CC lists 2.2.0 and earlier)
- OSV and HOL list the range from 1.19.1 up to but excluding 2.3.0
- The lower bound is inconsistent across sources and has not been confirmed
Fixed in
- Komodo Periphery 2.3.0 and later (per CERT/CC; verify in the GitHub release notes)
Workaround
Unknown. No vendor-documented workaround.
- Interim measure (own recommendation): reduce Execute, Read and Logs permissions for non-admin users on managed servers
- Restrict access to the Komodo UI and API to trusted networks
Exploitation
- Not known to be exploited in the wild (KEV: no)
- CISA SSVC: exploitation none, automatable no
- Public proof of concept: unknown
Our recommendation
- Inventory all Komodo Periphery agents and confirm the installed versions
- Upgrade to 2.3.0 or later after checking the vendor release notes
- Review and remove unneeded Execute, Read and Logs permissions for non-admin users
- Confirm that Komodo and agent management interfaces are not reachable from the internet
- CVSS 8.8 in NVD; CERT/CC rates 9.9 with scope change, so prioritise accordingly
Public exploits
PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.

Original description (NVD)
The `periphery` agent's container-management functionality of Komodo version 2.2.0 contains an OS command injection vulnerability. An authenticated low-privileged user with `Execute`, or `Read` plus `Logs`, permission on a managed server can supply shell metacharacters in a container name processed by the `DestroyContainer` or `SearchContainerLog` operations. The container name is interpolated without escaping into a command executed using `sh -c`, allowing arbitrary commands to execute as root on the managed host. This permits a user without Komodo's `Terminal` permission to obtain unrestricted host-level command execution.
