Snazzy Social Media Feed: Arbitrary file upload leading to remote code execution

CVE-2026-110002Critical 9.8

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

The Snazzy Social Media Feed WordPress plugin up to and including version 2.5 allows arbitrary file upload via the pluginURL parameter of the standalone save-to-cache.php script. The script lacks WordPress bootstrap, authentication, capability and nonce checks, and only applies FILTER_SANITIZE_URL to the input, so crafted PHP code is written into a cached file that can be executed with a single GET request. The CVE record states that an attacker with subscriber-level access can achieve remote code execution, which would allow full control of the affected WordPress site; some sources describe the flaw as unauthenticated, so the required access level must be verified.

Affected

  • snazzyplugins Snazzy Social Media Feed (WordPress plugin), all versions up to and including 2.5

Fixed in

Unknown. No vendor advisory or patched release has been confirmed.

Workaround

  • Deactivate and remove the plugin, or replace it with a maintained alternative (preferred)
  • Block web access to save-to-cache.php at the web server or WAF until the plugin is removed
  • Disallow PHP execution in upload and cache directories

Exploitation

  • Not listed in CISA KEV
  • No public proof-of-concept exploit found; VulDB states technical details are known
  • No reports of exploitation in the wild found
  • CISA SSVC: Automatable yes, Technical Impact total; EPSS about 0.9%

Our recommendation

  • Check whether the plugin is installed on any WordPress site and remove it if possible
  • Block access to save-to-cache.php until removal
  • Check for save-to-cache.php and cached-content/cached-feed.php and investigate unexpected PHP files
  • Review WordPress user registration, as open registration increases risk
  • Monitor web server logs for requests to these files and review accounts with subscriber access

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.

Original description (NVD)

The Snazzy Social Media Feed plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Arbitrary File Upload in all versions up to, and including, 2.5 via the (file scope) function. This is due to missing WordPress bootstrap, authentication, capability, and nonce checks in the standalone save-to-cache.php script, combined with insufficient sanitization of the pluginURL parameter before it is written to a web-executable PHP file. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with subscriber-level access and above, to upload files that may be executable, which makes remote code execution possible. The save-to-cache.php script is directly reachable without loading WordPress; FILTER_SANITIZE_URL — the only filter applied to the pluginURL value — preserves the characters required to craft a valid PHP payload, which is then written verbatim into cached-content/cached-feed.php and immediately executable via a single GET request.
