Linksys E1700: OS command injection in static route handler

CVE-2026-108894High 8.6

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

The Linksys E1700 wireless router with firmware 1.0.0.4.003 contains an OS command injection flaw in the addStaticRoute function at /goform/addStaticRoute. The IP, netmask, gateway and metric parameters are passed to the operating system without proper validation. A remote attacker can run arbitrary operating system commands on the device, potentially taking full control of the router, if they can reach the web administration interface. A public exploit is available, and the vendor did not respond to early disclosure contact.

Affected

  • Linksys E1700 with firmware 1.0.0.4.003
  • Other firmware versions and models: Unknown.

Fixed in

  • Unknown. No vendor fix or advisory has been found.

Workaround

  • Disable remote management and restrict access to the web administration interface to trusted internal hosts.
  • Change the default administrator password to a unique, strong one.
  • Segment the router from critical systems and guest or IoT networks.

Exploitation

  • Public exploit: yes, according to VulDB; a proof of concept is published.
  • Exploited in the wild: no known reports.
  • CISA SSVC: exploitation PoC, automatable no, technical impact total.
  • Authentication requirement: unverified (CVSS vector contains PR:L).

Our recommendation

  • Check immediately whether the router's web administration or remote management is reachable from the internet and disable it if so.
  • Restrict administrative access to specific trusted hosts and replace default credentials.
  • Review static route entries for unexpected changes and monitor the device for anomalous behaviour.
  • Check the Linksys support site for firmware updates; if no fix appears and the device is exposed or business-critical, plan replacement with a supported model.

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.

Original description (NVD)

A security flaw has been discovered in Linksys E1700 1.0.0.4.003. Impacted is the function addStaticRoute of the file /goform/addStaticRoute of the component Static Route Handler. Performing a manipulation of the argument staticRoute_IP_setting/staticRoute_Netmask_setting/staticRoute_Gateway_setting/staticRoute_Metric_setting results in os command injection. Remote exploitation of the attack is possible. The exploit has been released to the public and may be used for attacks. The vendor was contacted early about this disclosure but did not respond in any way.
