cc-connect: Missing authentication in MAX webhook mode

CVE-2026-108549Critical 9.2

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

cc-connect through version 1.5.0 accepts unauthenticated updates on the webhook listener of the MAX platform adapter when no webhook_secret is configured. A remote attacker who can reach the listener on port 8080 can forge updates that carry an allowed or admin user ID and run privileged commands such as /shell on the host. The flaw only applies to installations that use MAX webhook mode without a secret.

Affected

  • cc-connect versions 0 to 1.5.0 (default configuration is unaffected)
  • Only the MAX platform adapter in webhook mode without webhook_secret

Fixed in

Unknown.

  • No fixed release found; check https://github.com/chenhg5/cc-connect/releases
  • A proposed fix is tracked in issue #1968 (PR #1969); merge status unknown

Workaround

  • Set a non-empty webhook_secret for MAX webhook mode
  • Do not expose the webhook listener to the internet; restrict it to trusted networks or a reverse proxy with access controls
  • Switch away from MAX webhook mode if it is not required
  • Restrict which users can send commands, so shell-level access is limited

Exploitation

  • CISA SSVC: exploitation none, not automatable, technical impact total
  • Not known to be exploited; no public proof of concept found
  • EPSS 0.00451
  • The GitHub issue describes the flaw in detail

Our recommendation

  • Check whether cc-connect 1.5.0 or earlier runs with MAX webhook mode and no webhook_secret
  • If affected, set a webhook_secret and restrict network access to the listener, or disable webhook mode
  • Review the generic webhook server issue #1964 (PR #1965) as well
  • Monitor the vendor for a fixed release and update promptly

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.

Original description (NVD)

cc-connect through 1.5.0 contains a missing authentication vulnerability in the MAX platform adapter webhook mode in platform/max/max.go that accepts unauthenticated updates when no webhook_secret is configured. Remote attackers reaching the webhook listener on port 8080 can forge updates with an allowed or admin user_id to run privileged commands like /shell on the host.
