Hitachi Vantara Remote Ops Agent: Missing brute-force protection in password reset
Summary
Hitachi Vantara Remote Ops Agent lacks rate limiting on the password reset code. If the password reset function is enabled and email is configured, an unauthenticated network attacker can brute-force the reset code and take over accounts. According to the vendor's CNA record, the impact is administrative control of the application, such as changing service configuration or requesting log collection, but not access to device credentials or customer data.
Affected
- Remote Ops Agent 1.6.0 to 2.0
- Default configuration: unaffected according to the CNA record
- Prerequisites: password reset enabled and email configured
Fixed in
- Remote Ops Agent version 2.1 (per the CNA record; migration recommended)
Workaround
- Unknown. No vendor-documented workaround.
- Restrict network access to the agent's web interface.
- If an upgrade cannot be done immediately, consider disabling the password reset function.
Exploitation
- No known exploitation. Not listed in CISA KEV.
- CISA SSVC: exploitation none, automatable yes, technical impact total.
- No public proof of concept found.
Our recommendation
- Confirm whether Remote Ops Agent 1.6.0 to 2.0 is installed.
- Read Hitachi's advisory and upgrade to version 2.1.
- Restrict access to the web interface to trusted networks.
- Check whether password reset is enabled and email is configured.
- Review admin accounts and recent login and password reset activity.
- Patch CVE-2026-108337 (same product, fixed in 2.1) at the same time.
Public exploits
PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.

Original description (NVD)
When the password reset functionality is enabled, and email is configured, an attacker could take over any account using a brute-force attack. There is no rate limiting on the attempts to enter the reset code, leading to the possibility of a brute force solution to the password reset challenge. An attacker could gain administrative access to the application and perform actions like configuring the service or requesting log collection. Device credentials and customer data cannot be accessed with this vulnerability.
