FalkorDB: Authentication bypass in Bolt endpoint

CVE-2026-107910Critical 9.2

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

FalkorDB before 4.20.0 contains an authentication bypass in the Bolt endpoint (src/bolt/bolt_api.c). The check that decides whether a password is required treats only a WRONGPASS error as a password requirement, so other Redis errors such as LOADING, MASTERDOWN or OOM cause the client to be treated as authenticated. A remote, unauthenticated attacker can then execute graph queries without credentials. Only deployments that enable the Bolt endpoint (BOLT_PORT, disabled by default) are affected.

Affected

  • FalkorDB versions 0 to before 4.20.0
  • Only deployments with the Bolt endpoint enabled (BOLT_PORT set)

Fixed in

  • Upgrade to FalkorDB 4.20.0 or later. Bolt protocol support, including the affected code, was removed in 4.20.0.

Workaround

  • Keep the Bolt endpoint disabled (do not set BOLT_PORT).
  • If Bolt is required, restrict network access to the Bolt port to trusted clients only.

Exploitation

  • CISA SSVC: exploitation none, not automatable, total technical impact.
  • No evidence of exploitation in the wild found.
  • Public proof of concept: Unknown.

Our recommendation

  • Check whether BOLT_PORT is set on any FalkorDB instance.
  • If Bolt is not needed, keep it disabled and verify the configuration.
  • If Bolt is needed, block the Bolt port from untrusted networks until the upgrade is done.
  • Upgrade FalkorDB to 4.20.0 or later.

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.

Original description (NVD)

An improper authentication vulnerability in the is_authenticated function (src/bolt/bolt_api.c) in FalkorDB before 4.20.0 allows a remote unauthenticated attacker to execute graph queries without credentials through the Bolt endpoint. The function decides whether a password is required by issuing an empty AUTH command to Redis and treats only a WRONGPASS error as meaning that a password is required; any other error, such as LOADING while a dataset is being loaded, MASTERDOWN during replication failover, or OOM under memory pressure, causes the client to be treated as authenticated. Only deployments that enable the Bolt endpoint (BOLT_PORT, disabled by default) are affected.
