MariaDB Server: Out-of-bounds write in CONNECT engine DOS tables
Summary
MariaDB Server's CONNECT engine, when handling DOS table types, uses an incorrect boundary check that allows a one-byte null write beyond a stack buffer at an attacker-controlled offset. An authenticated user who can use the CONNECT engine can cause a crash and, according to the vendor, potentially remote code execution; the vendor demonstrated code execution only under lab conditions. The attack complexity is rated high.
Affected
- MariaDB Server 10.6.1 to 10.6.27
- MariaDB Server 10.11.1 to 10.11.18
- MariaDB Server 11.4.1 to 11.4.12
- MariaDB Server 11.8.1 to 11.8.8
- MariaDB Server 12.3.1 to 12.3.2
- MariaDB Server 13.0.1
Fixed in
- 10.6.28
- 10.11.19
- 11.4.13
- 11.8.9
- 12.3.3
- 13.0.2
Workaround
- Uninstall or do not load the CONNECT engine plugin if it is not needed.
- Distribution packages may lag behind upstream; check your vendor's status.
Exploitation
- No confirmed in-the-wild exploitation reported.
- No public exploit found; the vendor demonstrated code execution only under lab conditions.
- CISA SSVC: exploitation none, automatable no, technical impact total.
- EPSS of one aggregator: 0.01381 (unverified).
Our recommendation
- Inventory MariaDB versions and check whether the CONNECT plugin is installed and loaded.
- Upgrade to the fixed release for your branch as a priority.
- If CONNECT is not needed, uninstall the plugin.
- Ensure database ports are not exposed to the internet and use least-privilege accounts.
Public exploits
PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.

Original description (NVD)
MariaDB server is a community developed fork of MySQL server. From 10.6.1 until 10.6.28, 10.11.19, 11.4.13, 11.8.9, 12.3.3, and 13.0.2, the CONNECT engine's DOS table type used an incorrect boundary check that permitted a one-byte null write beyond a stack buffer at an attacker-controlled offset. An authenticated user able to use the CONNECT engine could cause a crash and potentially remote code execution. This issue is fixed in versions 10.6.28, 10.11.19, 11.4.13, 11.8.9, 12.3.3, and 13.0.2.
