@enmaso/node-convert: OS command injection in convert.js
Summary
The npm package @enmaso/node-convert up to and including version 1.0.0 builds an ImageMagick command from unescaped arguments (filepath and convertTo) and runs it with child_process.exec(). An attacker who controls one of these values can inject shell metacharacters and execute operating system commands with the privileges of the Node.js process. The risk exists only if an application passes untrusted input to the library, and a public proof of concept has been published.
Affected
- @enmaso/node-convert versions 0 to 1.0.0 (inclusive)
Fixed in
Unknown. No fixed version has been confirmed at the time of writing.
Workaround
- Remove the package or replace it with a maintained alternative.
- Do not pass user-controlled file paths or format options to the library.
- Run the Node.js process with minimal privileges, ideally in a container.
Exploitation
- A public proof of concept is available (GitHub gist).
- CISA SSVC: exploitation 'poc', automatable: yes, technical impact: total.
- Not listed as known exploited; no reports of in-the-wild attacks found.
- EPSS 0.01846 (low predicted exploitation probability).
Our recommendation
- Search all codebases and lockfiles (package-lock.json, yarn.lock) for @enmaso/node-convert.
- Replace the package, or limit it to trusted input and move it into an isolated service.
- Check whether internet-facing services pass user input to it.
- Monitor the vendor repository and NVD for a fixed release.
Public exploits
PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.

Original description (NVD)
@enmaso/node-convert through 1.0.0 contains an OS command injection vulnerability in convert.js that allows attackers to execute shell commands via unsanitized filepath and convertTo arguments. Attackers can inject shell metacharacters or a single quote into the ImageMagick command run by child_process.exec() to execute operating system commands with Node.js process privileges.
