Google Chrome: Race condition in font handling allows code execution outside sandbox

CVE-2026-106426High 8.3

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

A race condition in the font handling of Google Chrome before 155.0.8059.39 can be exploited by a remote attacker via a crafted HTML page. Successful exploitation may allow arbitrary code execution outside the browser sandbox. The attack requires the victim to open the malicious page, for example through phishing or a compromised website. Google rates the issue as High severity, and no exploitation in the wild is known.

Affected

  • Google Chrome Stable for Linux before 155.0.8059.39
  • Google Chrome Stable for Windows and Mac before 155.0.8059.39/.40 (according to the MS-ISAC advisory)
  • CVSS 3.1: 8.3 (High), AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:H

Fixed in

  • Google Chrome 155.0.8059.39 for Linux
  • Google Chrome 155.0.8059.39/.40 for Windows and Mac
  • Vendor source: Google Chrome Releases, Stable Channel Update for Desktop, October 6, 2026

Workaround

Unknown. No workaround was found in the sources. Updating is the only documented mitigation.

Exploitation

  • No reports of exploitation in the wild (MS-ISAC).
  • CISA SSVC in the CVE record: exploitation none, automatable no.
  • No public proof of concept found.
  • Not in CISA KEV according to a third-party tracker; not verified against the CISA catalogue.

Our recommendation

  • Check the Chrome version on all endpoints. Windows, Mac and Linux have different fixed builds.
  • Update Chrome to 155.0.8059.39 or later (Linux) or 155.0.8059.39/.40 or later (Windows, Mac).
  • Confirm that automatic updates work on managed devices and that no system remains on an older build.
  • Treat this as a standard priority patch, unless the fleet is significantly outdated.

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
