Google Chrome: Integer overflow in Media component

CVE-2026-106417Critical 9.6

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

An integer overflow (CWE-190) in the Media component of Google Chrome before 155.0.8059.39 can be triggered by a crafted HTML page. A remote attacker may potentially execute code outside the browser sandbox. The attack requires that a user visits the malicious page, and code execution outside the sandbox typically requires chaining with a separate browser flaw. NVD rates the issue 9.6 (Critical), while Google rates it Low in its Chromium severity field.

Affected

  • Google Chrome prior to 155.0.8059.39 (according to the CVE record)
  • Exact Windows and macOS fixed-build boundary: to be confirmed in the official Chrome advisory

Fixed in

  • Google Chrome 155.0.8059.39 or later (Linux)
  • Google Chrome 155.0.8059.39/.40 or later (Windows and macOS, per a third-party summary of the vendor advisory; not verified directly)
  • Current stable Chrome release recommended, as later releases followed

Workaround

Unknown. No workaround is listed in the CVE record. Updating Chrome is the mitigation.

Exploitation

  • CISA SSVC: exploitation none, automatable no, technical impact total
  • Not listed in CISA KEV
  • No public proof of concept or exploit reports found; this does not prove that none exists

Our recommendation

  • Update Chrome on all workstations to the current stable release and restart the browser after the update
  • Check managed devices for outdated Chrome versions, including unmanaged installations
  • Check Chromium-based applications and Linux systems using distribution packages (for example the chromium package) for updates
  • Prioritise workstations used for untrusted web browsing; servers without a browser have low exposure

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
