Google Chrome: Use after free in Media component

CVE-2026-106318High 8.8

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

Google Chrome before 155.0.8059.39 contains a use-after-free flaw (CWE-416) in its Media component, rated High (CVSS 8.8). A remote attacker can execute arbitrary code inside the browser sandbox by luring a user to a crafted HTML page. The attack needs user interaction, such as opening that page. The sources reviewed do not state whether the flaw can be chained into a full sandbox escape.

Affected

  • Google Chrome (Desktop) prior to 155.0.8059.39
  • Chromium-based browsers that include the affected Chromium code, such as Microsoft Edge, need their own updates
  • Linux distributions: Debian 12 packages before 155.0.8059.39-1~deb12u1; Ubuntu chromium-browser (snap)

Fixed in

  • Google Chrome 155.0.8059.39 (Linux) and 155.0.8059.39/.40 (Windows, Mac), Stable Channel Update of 6 Oct 2026
  • Debian: 155.0.8059.39-1~deb12u1
  • openSUSE/SUSE: chromium 155.0.8059.39 or later
  • Later Chrome 155 builds also contain fixes for other issues; use the current stable build

Workaround

Unknown. The vendor documents no workaround; applying the update is the fix.

Exploitation

  • CISA SSVC (CVE record): Exploitation none, Automatable no, Technical Impact total
  • No evidence of exploitation in the wild found in the reviewed sources
  • Not listed as known exploited (CISA KEV) by a third-party tracker; the CISA catalogue was not checked directly
  • No public proof of concept found; this does not prove that none exists
  • EPSS 0.00303 according to a third-party aggregator; check FIRST.org for the current value

Our recommendation

  • Update Google Chrome on all workstations to the current Stable build, at least 155.0.8059.39
  • Update Microsoft Edge and other Chromium-based browsers separately and verify their versions against the vendor advisory
  • Ubuntu users: refresh the chromium snap, since the chromium-browser package is only a wrapper
  • Use Chrome Enterprise release channels to control rollout timing, and confirm the update status across all endpoints
  • Monitor for unusual browser crashes or unexpected code execution on staff devices

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
