Google Chrome: Confused deputy in Contextual Tasks allows privileged page access

CVE-2026-106301High 8.1

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

A confused deputy flaw in the Contextual Tasks feature of Google Chrome before 155.0.8059.39 allows a remote attacker to bypass system access restrictions and reach a privileged page. The attacker must first have compromised the renderer process and then lure a user to a crafted HTML page. The CVSS vector indicates high confidentiality and integrity impact and no availability impact.

Affected

  • Google Chrome desktop before 155.0.8059.39
  • Distribution packages: Debian bookworm before 155.0.8059.39-1~deb12u1; SUSE SLES 15.7 chromium before 155.0.8059.39-bp157.2.241.1
  • Ubuntu chromium-browser: not affected (snap wrapper)

Fixed in

  • Google Chrome 155.0.8059.39 (Windows, Linux) and 155.0.8059.40 (Mac), Stable channel, 6 October 2026
  • Debian bookworm: 155.0.8059.39-1~deb12u1
  • SUSE SLES 15.7: chromium 155.0.8059.39-bp157.2.241.1

Workaround

None published.

Exploitation

  • Not known exploited; not listed in the CISA KEV catalog.
  • CISA SSVC: Exploitation none, Automatable no, Technical Impact total.
  • No public proof of concept found.

Our recommendation

  • Update Chrome to 155.0.8059.39 or later (155.0.8059.40 on Mac) on all endpoints.
  • Verify the build number on managed devices, as the rollout is phased.
  • Check Chromium builds and Linux packages separately, as they may follow other release cycles.
  • Monitor for further vendor information on this CVE.

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
