Google Chrome: Use-after-free in Streaming component

CVE-2026-106283High 8.8

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

A use-after-free vulnerability in the Streaming component of Google Chrome before 155.0.8059.39 could be abused by a remote attacker. The attacker would need social engineering to lure a user to a crafted HTML page. Successful exploitation could potentially execute arbitrary code inside the browser sandbox. Code execution is limited to the sandbox, so a separate sandbox escape would be needed for full system compromise.

Affected

  • Google Chrome (desktop) before 155.0.8059.39 (per CVE description)
  • Debian chromium package for bookworm before 155.0.8059.39-1~deb12u1 (distribution advisory)
  • SUSE chromium for SLES 15.7 before 155.0.8059.39-bp157.2.241.1 (distribution advisory)
  • Chromium-based browsers that ingest the fix are affected until they are updated. No fixed Microsoft Edge build is confirmed for this CVE.

Fixed in

  • Google Chrome 155.0.8059.39 for Linux
  • Google Chrome 155.0.8059.39/.40 for Windows and macOS (Google Chrome Releases, 6 October 2026)
  • Debian chromium 155.0.8059.39-1~deb12u1 (bookworm)
  • SUSE chromium 155.0.8059.39-bp157.2.241.1 (SLES 15.7)

Workaround

Unknown. The vendor fix is the mitigation. No vendor-documented workaround was found.

Exploitation

  • Exploited in the wild: not known. CISA ADP Vulnrichment does not mark the CVE as known exploited; the CISA KEV catalog was not checked directly.
  • CISA SSVC: Exploitation none, Automatable no, Technical Impact total.
  • Public proof of concept: none found.

Our recommendation

  • Update Google Chrome to 155.0.8059.39 or later (Windows and macOS: 155.0.8059.39/.40 or later) via About Google Chrome or managed updates.
  • Check the browser version across all workstations, not only the patch date, because staged rollouts can leave some machines behind.
  • Update Chromium-based browsers and Linux distribution packages once fixes are available.
  • Prioritise this update if users handle untrusted links, and install the full Chrome release, which also fixes other critical bugs.

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
