Google Chrome: Use-after-free in Select component allows code execution

CVE-2026-106278High 8.8

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

Google Chrome before 155.0.8059.39 contains a use-after-free vulnerability in the Select component (CWE-416). A remote attacker who lures a user to a crafted HTML page through social engineering can execute arbitrary code inside the browser sandbox. The description does not cover a further sandbox escape, so this is not a complete takeover from a web visit alone. NVD rates the issue CVSS 8.8 (High).

Affected

  • Google Chrome desktop prior to 155.0.8059.39
  • Chromium-based builds that include the same Select code (check their own advisories)

Fixed in

  • Google Chrome 155.0.8059.39 or later (Stable update of 6 October 2026)
  • Latest Stable build recommended, as later Chrome releases also include fixes

Workaround

Unknown. No vendor workaround identified; apply the update.

Exploitation

  • CISA SSVC: exploitation none, not automatable, technical impact total
  • Not listed in CISA KEV
  • No public proof of concept or in-the-wild exploitation found in research

Our recommendation

  • Confirm all Chrome installations run 155.0.8059.39 or later, preferably the latest Stable build
  • Verify that automatic updates work, since staged rollouts may delay the fix on some machines
  • Prioritise browsers used for web and email links
  • Check Chromium-based browsers and Linux distribution packages separately against their own advisories

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
