Google Chrome: Use after free in WebRTC allows code execution in sandbox

CVE-2026-106268High 8.8

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

A use-after-free flaw in the WebRTC component of Google Chrome allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code inside the browser sandbox. The attacker only needs to lure a user to a crafted HTML page, and the user must visit it. The description does not report a sandbox escape, so full system compromise would require a further exploit chain.

Affected

  • Google Chrome prior to 155.0.8059.39 (Linux)
  • Google Chrome prior to 155.0.8059.39/.40 (Windows and macOS)
  • Chromium-based browsers and Linux distribution packages built from affected Chromium versions: unknown, check vendor pages
  • Conflicting data: Malwarebytes lists the Windows/macOS build as 154.0.8037.39/.40; Google's advisory is treated as authoritative.

Fixed in

  • Google Chrome 155.0.8059.39 (Linux)
  • Google Chrome 155.0.8059.39/.40 (Windows and macOS)
  • Debian bookworm: 155.0.8059.39-1~deb12u1
  • Chainguard Wolfi: 155.0.8059.39-r0
  • Fixed versions for Chrome ESR or extended stable branches: unknown

Workaround

No workaround documented. Apply the vendor update.

Exploitation

  • No known exploitation in the wild found in the sources checked.
  • CISA SSVC: exploitation none, not automatable.
  • No public proof of concept found; VulDB states that technical details are unknown.

Our recommendation

  • Update Chrome to 155.0.8059.39 or later (155.0.8059.39/.40 on Windows and macOS) on all workstations and servers with browsers.
  • Check for stragglers, especially Linux hosts with older Chromium packages and browsers not restarted since the update.
  • For managed fleets, enforce update rollout and verify the installed version.
  • Patch the whole release, since it fixes several other Chrome use-after-free bugs.

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
