Google Chrome: Use-after-free in HTML handling allows sandbox code execution

CVE-2026-106257High 8.8

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

A use-after-free vulnerability (CWE-416) in HTML handling in Google Chrome before 155.0.8059.39 allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code inside the browser sandbox. The attacker must lure a user to a crafted HTML page; no authentication is required. A full compromise usually needs an additional sandbox escape, which is not described in the CVE record. Chromium rates the issue High.

Affected

  • Google Chrome prior to 155.0.8059.39 (Windows, macOS, Linux)
  • Chromium-based browsers and Linux distribution packages without this fix

Fixed in

  • Google Chrome 155.0.8059.39 (Linux); Windows and macOS: 155.0.8059.39 or .40 (exact build unverified)
  • Debian chromium 155.0.8059.39-1~deb12u1 (bookworm)
  • SUSE chromium 155.0.8059.39

Workaround

Unknown. No vendor workaround is known; the fix is a browser update.

Exploitation

  • No known exploitation in the wild reported by CIS or CISA ADP Vulnrichment; not confirmed in the CISA KEV catalog.
  • No public proof of concept found. The vendor often withholds technical details until most users have updated.

Our recommendation

  • Update Chrome and other Chromium-based browsers to 155.0.8059.39 or later; for Edge and Linux packages, follow the vendor advisories.
  • Restart the browser after the update, because the auto-update is staged.
  • Check versions via endpoint inventory and look for stragglers in managed fleets.
  • Prioritise this update for workstations with internet access.

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
