Google Chrome: Buffer overflow in ANGLE graphics library
Summary
Google Chrome before 155.0.8059.39 contains a buffer overflow in ANGLE, the open-source graphics library that Chrome uses for WebGL and OpenGL rendering. An attacker who has already compromised the renderer process could use a crafted HTML page to potentially execute arbitrary code outside the Chrome sandbox. The attacker must first gain control of the renderer, and the user must open the malicious page.
Affected
- Google Chrome before 155.0.8059.39 (Windows, macOS and Linux)
Fixed in
- Google Chrome 155.0.8059.39 or later (Windows and macOS: 155.0.8059.39/.40; Linux: 155.0.8059.39)
- Use the current Chrome stable build; later Chrome 155 point releases also contain this fix.
Workaround
- Unknown. No vendor-documented workaround; updating is the remedy.
Exploitation
- CISA ADP data does not list the CVE as known exploited.
- No public proof-of-concept exploit found.
- Chromium rates the issue Low; CISA SSVC: exploitation none, not automatable, total technical impact.
Our recommendation
- Update Google Chrome on all managed endpoints to 155.0.8059.39 or later, preferably the current stable build.
- Restart Chrome after the update so the fix takes effect.
- Check that Microsoft Edge (Chromium-based) is also updated.
- Verify update status centrally, for example through endpoint management.
- Monitor for further vendor updates; the CVSS score is high, but the vendor rates the issue Low, so prioritise accordingly.
Public exploits
PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.

Original description (NVD)
Buffer overflow in ANGLE in Google Chrome prior to 155.0.8059.39 allowed a remote attacker who had compromised the renderer process to potentially execute arbitrary code outside the sandbox via a crafted HTML page. (Chromium security severity: Low)
