Google Chrome: Type confusion in V8 allows code execution in sandbox
Summary
Google Chrome prior to 155.0.8059.39 contains a type confusion flaw in the V8 JavaScript engine (CWE-843). A remote attacker can execute arbitrary code inside the browser sandbox by luring a user to a crafted HTML page. The attack requires that the user visits the page, for example via a link in email or chat. Code execution is limited to the sandbox; the advisory does not describe a sandbox escape.
Affected
- Google Chrome versions prior to 155.0.8059.39 (CVE description)
- Chrome desktop builds on Windows, Mac and Linux are affected
Fixed in
- Chrome 155.0.8059.39 (Linux) and 155.0.8059.39/.40 (Windows, Mac), Stable update of 6 October 2026
- Recommended: Chrome 155.0.8059.79 or newer (Stable update of 13 October 2026 includes the earlier fix)
Workaround
Unknown. No vendor workaround found; patching is the mitigation.
Exploitation
- CISA SSVC: exploitation none, not automatable, total technical impact
- Not listed in the CISA KEV catalogue; no public proof of concept found in research
- Google reports no attacks in the wild in the primary advisory (not confirmed in the primary post; secondary reports only)
Our recommendation
- Inventory Chrome versions on all endpoints and flag anything below 155.0.8059.79
- Update Chrome to 155.0.8059.79 or newer within the normal browser patch cycle (within days)
- Check Microsoft Edge and other Chromium-based browsers for updates as well
- Enable automatic updates and restart the browser after patching
Public exploits
PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
