Google Chrome: Use after free in Metrics allows sandbox escape

CVE-2026-106233High 8.3

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

Google Chrome before 155.0.8059.39 contains a use-after-free vulnerability in the Metrics component. A remote attacker who has already compromised the renderer process can execute arbitrary code outside the browser sandbox by luring a user to a crafted HTML page. Exploitation requires a chained attack and user interaction, and the CVSS score is 8.3 (High).

Affected

  • Google Chrome prior to 155.0.8059.39
  • Chromium-based browsers that have not yet integrated the fix (e.g. Microsoft Edge: fixed build not verified)

Fixed in

  • Google Chrome 155.0.8059.39 or later (Windows and Mac builds may be 155.0.8059.40)
  • Debian bookworm chromium: 155.0.8059.39-1~deb12u1

Workaround

  • No workaround is documented. Updating Chrome is the required mitigation.

Exploitation

  • Not listed in CISA KEV.
  • CISA SSVC: exploitation none, automatable no, technical impact total.
  • No public proof of concept found; no evidence of exploitation in the wild in the vendor advisory.
  • EPSS: 0.00371.

Our recommendation

  • Update Google Chrome to 155.0.8059.39 or later (or 155.0.8059.40 on Windows and Mac) across all endpoints.
  • Use managed Chrome and Edge update policies and verify the installed version on each device.
  • Check whether Chromium-based browsers such as Microsoft Edge have received a fixed build.
  • Treat as a standard high-severity browser patch unless signs of targeted attacks appear.

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
