Google Chrome: Use-after-free in Core allows remote code execution

CVE-2026-106227Critical 9.6

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

A use-after-free flaw in the Core component of Google Chrome desktop allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code outside the browser sandbox. The attacker only needs to lure a user to a crafted HTML page, so no login or prior access is required. The CVSS 3.1 base score is 9.6 (Critical) and Chromium rates the issue High.

Affected

  • Google Chrome desktop versions before 155.0.8059.39
  • Downstream Chromium builds that include the vulnerable Core code, such as Debian, SUSE and Chainguard packages before their fixed versions

Fixed in

  • Google Chrome 155.0.8059.39 (Linux) and 155.0.8059.39/.40 (Windows and Mac), per Google's Stable Channel Update of October 6, 2026
  • Debian 155.0.8059.39-1~deb12u1
  • Chainguard chromium 155.0.8059.39-r0
  • Microsoft Edge (Chromium) 155.0.4283.62 per Tenable

Workaround

No workaround known. Update the browser to a fixed build.

Exploitation

  • No evidence of in-the-wild exploitation found in the sources reviewed.
  • No public proof of concept found for this CVE.
  • CISA SSVC assessment: Exploitation none, Automatable no, Technical Impact total.
  • Third-party data indicates it is not in the CISA KEV catalog; verify this on cisa.gov before closing the item.

Our recommendation

  • Update Google Chrome to 155.0.8059.39 or later (or a current 156.x build) on all workstations, prioritising users who browse untrusted sites.
  • Check the whole fleet for the installed Chrome version and confirm the rollout.
  • Update other Chromium-based browsers and embedded Chromium components (such as Electron apps) once their vendors ship fixed builds.
  • Monitor for exploitation news and re-check the CISA KEV catalog.

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
