Google Chrome: Race condition in V8 allows code execution in sandbox

CVE-2026-106207High 8.8

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

A race condition in the V8 JavaScript engine of Google Chrome allows a remote attacker to execute code inside the browser sandbox. Affected are Chrome versions before 155.0.8059.39 on Linux and before 155.0.8059.39/.40 on Windows and macOS. The attacker only needs to lure a user to a crafted HTML page, and no authentication is required. NVD rates the issue CVSS 8.8 (High), while Chromium rates it Medium; the impact is limited to the sandbox unless it is chained with a second flaw.

Affected

  • Google Chrome before 155.0.8059.39 (Linux)
  • Google Chrome before 155.0.8059.39/.40 (Windows, macOS)
  • Chromium-based browsers that share the V8 code, such as Microsoft Edge (Tenable lists patched Edge build 155.0.4283.62)

Fixed in

  • Linux: 155.0.8059.39 or later
  • Windows and macOS: 155.0.8059.39/.40 or later
  • Debian bookworm: 155.0.8059.39-1~deb12u1
  • Ubuntu: chromium-browser is not affected because it installs the Chromium snap

Workaround

  • No vendor-documented workaround. No workaround is required once the patched version is installed.
  • Until updated: avoid visiting untrusted sites in affected browsers. This is an inference, not a vendor recommendation.

Exploitation

  • Not known to be exploited in the wild.
  • Not listed in CISA KEV according to a third-party alert.
  • No public proof of concept found.
  • EPSS 0.00337, which indicates low predicted exploitation.

Our recommendation

  • Update all Chrome and Edge installations to the fixed versions listed above, starting with workstations that browse the web.
  • Check that Debian and SUSE systems with chromium packages are patched.
  • Verify browser versions through your management tool or an inventory check.
  • Check the Chrome Releases blog for newer stable builds.
  • Monitor for public exploit reports and a CISA KEV listing.

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
