Google Chrome: Use-after-free in Browser allows remote code execution

CVE-2026-106197Critical 9.6

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

Google Chrome desktop contains a use-after-free flaw in the Browser component. A remote attacker can execute arbitrary code outside the browser sandbox by luring a user to a crafted HTML page. No privileges are needed, but the user must visit the page. The CVSS base score is 9.6 (critical).

Affected

  • Google Chrome desktop versions prior to 155.0.8059.39 (Windows, Mac, Linux)

Fixed in

  • Chrome 155.0.8059.39 for Linux and 155.0.8059.39/.40 for Windows and Mac (Stable channel update, 6 Oct 2026)
  • Debian bookworm: chromium 155.0.8059.39-1~deb12u1
  • Ubuntu: chromium-browser deb packages not affected, because Ubuntu installs Chromium as a snap; check the snap refresh status

Workaround

Unknown. No vendor workaround is published. Apply the browser update.

Exploitation

  • Google reports no known exploitation in the wild.
  • CISA SSVC assessment: exploitation none, not automatable, total technical impact.
  • No public proof-of-concept found.

Our recommendation

  • Update Google Chrome to the current stable release on all desktops without delay.
  • Keep automatic updates enabled and enforce updates in managed environments.
  • Check Linux and snap-based Chromium installations separately.
  • Make sure other Chromium-based browsers are updated as well.

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
