Session Smart Conductor: OS command injection in AutomatedProvisioner
Summary
A flaw in the AutomatedProvisioner component of Juniper Networks Session Smart Conductor allows OS command injection via a specially crafted salt minion ID. According to the CVE description, a remote attacker can execute arbitrary commands as root. The CNA record describes the attacker as unauthenticated, and the CVSS vector requires no privileges and no user interaction. Conductor manages the whole router fleet, so an exposed management interface is the main risk.
Affected
- Session Smart Conductor below 7.0.5
- Session Smart Conductor 7.1.0 to below 7.1.7
- Session Smart Conductor 7.2.0 to below 7.2.3
Fixed in
- Session Smart Conductor 7.0.5 and all subsequent releases
- Session Smart Conductor 7.1.7 and all subsequent releases
- Session Smart Conductor 7.2.3 and all subsequent releases

Exploitation
- Juniper SIRT is not aware of any malicious exploitation of this vulnerability.
- Not listed in the CISA KEV catalogue. No verified public exploit found.
Our recommendation
- Check whether Session Smart Conductor is in use.
- Restrict access to Conductor management interfaces, especially from the internet and untrusted networks, until the system is patched.
- Update to 7.0.5, 7.1.7 or 7.2.3 (or later) depending on the installed branch. Verify the details against JSA112183 first.
- Monitor managed devices and the Conductor for unusual commands or configuration changes.
Public exploits
PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
