TOTOLINK X2000R: Stack-based buffer overflow in boa formUpload()
Summary
A stack-based buffer overflow in the boa web administration component of the TOTOLINK X2000R router allows arbitrary code execution. An attacker must first authenticate and then send a specially crafted HTTP request to the upload functionality. The CVSS score is 9.1 (critical) because of the high impact on confidentiality, integrity and availability, but exploitation requires valid credentials.
Affected
- TOTOLINK X2000R, firmware TOTOLINK-X2000R-Gh-V1.0.0-B20250421.1327 (the only version listed by the CNA)
Fixed in
Unknown. No fixed firmware has been published.
Workaround
Unknown. No vendor mitigation is documented. Interim measures:
- Disable remote management and WAN access to the admin interface.
- Restrict admin access to trusted LAN hosts.
- Change default or weak admin passwords.
- Monitor for unexpected configuration or firmware changes.
Exploitation
- CISA SSVC: exploitation none, not automatable.
- Not listed in the CISA KEV catalogue.
- No public proof of concept found.
Our recommendation
- Inventory X2000R devices and check whether remote management is enabled.
- Remove any internet exposure of the admin interface.
- Ask TOTOLINK for an advisory and a fixed firmware; apply it once available.
- Replace the device if no fix is provided.
Public exploits
PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
