TOTOLINK X2000R: OS command injection in boa formPasswordSetup
Summary
The boa web interface of the TOTOLINK X2000R router contains an OS command injection in the formPasswordSetup function. The password value is passed unsanitized into a system call when the device is in mesh mode. An authenticated attacker who can send a crafted HTTP request can execute arbitrary code on the router. The CVSS 3.1 base score is 9.1 (Critical), but exploitation requires high privileges.
Affected
- TOTOLINK X2000R, firmware TOTOLINK-X2000R-Gh-V1.0.0-B20250421.1327 (the only build listed)
- Exploitation requires the device to be in mesh mode
- Other firmware builds: Unknown.
Fixed in
Unknown. No fixed firmware version has been published.
Workaround
- Restrict access to the web management interface to trusted LAN addresses and do not expose it to the internet.
- Use a strong, unique administrator password to limit who can obtain an authenticated session.
- No vendor-published workaround is known.
Exploitation
- No known exploitation in the wild. CISA SSVC lists Exploitation: none and Automatable: no, with total technical impact.
- Not listed in CISA KEV.
- No public proof of concept found.
Our recommendation
- Inventory all TOTOLINK X2000R devices and check whether the web interface is reachable from the internet.
- Remove internet access to the admin interface and restrict it to trusted internal addresses.
- Enforce unique, strong admin passwords and review administrator accounts.
- Ask TOTOLINK for a fixed firmware version and replace the device if none is provided.
- Monitor the Talos advisory, NVD and CISA KEV for updates.
Public exploits
PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
