AMI AptioV: Classic buffer overflow in UEFI/BIOS firmware

CVE-2025-58772High 8.2

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

AMI AptioV UEFI/BIOS firmware contains a classic buffer overflow (CWE-120) and out-of-bounds write issues. An attacker with local access and low privileges, without user interaction, can trigger memory corruption and possibly arbitrary code execution with high impact on availability and some impact on confidentiality and integrity. CISA SSVC lists exploitation as none and the issue as not automatable, and no public exploit has been found.

Affected

  • AMI AptioV from AptioV_5.0 to before AptioV_5.044 (per the CNA record; default configuration is unaffected)
  • One secondary source lists a different upper bound (5.43), which is probably a typo and is unverified
  • OEM/board-vendor firmware versions based on affected AptioV releases: unknown

Fixed in

Unknown. The fixed version is not confirmed in the sources reviewed. The AMI advisory AMI-SA-2026002 should be checked for it.

Workaround

Unknown. No vendor-stated mitigation for this CVE was found. General hardening: restrict local access, protect BIOS setup with an administrator password, and limit who can run code locally.

Exploitation

  • Known exploitation: none found; not listed in CISA KEV
  • CISA SSVC: exploitation none, automatable no, technical impact total
  • Public proof of concept: none found (search was limited)
  • EPSS: no value found

Our recommendation

  • Open AMI advisory AMI-SA-2026002 and confirm the fixed AptioV version
  • Inventory devices and their AptioV/BIOS versions, prioritising admin workstations and servers
  • Install OEM BIOS updates as soon as they address this issue; check each vendor's release notes
  • Until then, restrict local and physical access and protect BIOS setup with a password
  • Re-check NVD once its analysis is published

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
