IBM WebSphere Application Server Liberty: Incorrect authorization

CVE-2026-95695Critical 9.1

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

IBM WebSphere Application Server Liberty versions 20.0.0.12 through 26.0.0.10 contain an incorrect authorization flaw (CWE-863). A remote attacker can bypass security restrictions. IBM states the issue applies when the grpc-1.0 feature is enabled, and the bulletin lists no workaround.

Affected

  • IBM WebSphere Application Server Liberty 20.0.0.12 through 26.0.0.10
  • Relevant only with the grpc-1.0 feature enabled (per IBM)

Fixed in

  • Interim fix that resolves APAR DT502929 (after upgrading to the minimum fix pack level required by the interim fix)
  • Liberty Fix Pack 26.0.0.11 or later (targeted availability 4Q2026)

Workaround

None (per IBM security bulletin)

Exploitation

  • CISA SSVC assessment: exploitation none, not automatable, total technical impact
  • No known exploitation in the wild and no public proof of concept found at the time of research

Our recommendation

  • Check whether Liberty runs directly or inside another IBM product (for example OpenPages or License Metric Tool) and whether grpc-1.0 is enabled
  • Apply the interim fix for DT502929 or Liberty Fix Pack 26.0.0.11 or later as soon as possible, prioritising internet-facing servers
  • Until patched, restrict network access to affected servers and monitor gRPC service access
  • Verify the final CVSS score in NVD, as the sources differ (9.1 in NVD data, 7.4 in IBM's bulletin)

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
