Dell PowerProtect Data Domain Management Center: Authentication bypass by spoofing
Summary
Dell PowerProtect Data Domain Management Center in several Feature Release and LTS versions contains an authentication bypass by spoofing (CWE-290). A remote attacker with a low-privileged account can exploit it to escalate privileges, and the flaw could affect other managed Data Domain systems. Dell rates the issue critical (CVSS 3.1: 9.1), but the sources disagree on the exact score and CWE, so the Dell advisory is the authority.
Affected
- Feature Release 7.7.1.0 through 8.8
- LTS2024 7.13.1.0 through 7.13.1.80
- LTS2025 8.3.1.0 through 8.3.1.40
- LTS2026 8.6.1.0 through 8.6.1.20
Fixed in
- Dell's affected ranges imply fixed releases 8.9.0.0, 8.6.1.30, 8.3.1.50 and 7.13.1.90 or later (from secondary trackers; not yet confirmed against Dell's remediation table)
Workaround
Unknown.
Exploitation
- Dell reports no known exploitation.
- No public exploit code found.
- Not confirmed in CISA KEV at the time of research.
- CISA SSVC: exploitation none, not automatable, total technical impact.
Our recommendation
- Check whether the Management Center management interface is reachable from outside the admin network, and restrict access (VPN, allow-list) until patched.
- Verify the fixed versions in Dell advisory DSA-2026-416 and patch the Management Center together with the managed Data Domain systems.
- Review admin and service accounts for unnecessary privileges and rotate credentials.
- Monitor authentication logs for unusual logins.
- Scanners may report false positives after patching; check against the Dell advisory.
Public exploits
PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
