IBM DataStage on Cloud Pak for Data: Improper authorization allows Redis write

CVE-2026-81212Critical 10.0

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

IBM DataStage on Cloud Pak for Data 5.4.0.0 contains an improper authorization flaw. An unauthenticated remote attacker can write arbitrary data into the shared Redis store under any tenant's key. This can undermine the platform's credential-encryption boundary and allow poisoning of cached flow parameters for any tenant.

Affected

  • IBM DataStage on Cloud Pak for Data 5.4.0.0

Fixed in

  • Upgrade to 5.4 patch 8 or later, as stated in the CNA record. Fix not yet confirmed by IBM bulletin 7289603; one press article cites 5.4 patch 7, so verify with IBM before relying on it.

Workaround

  • Unknown. No IBM-sourced interim mitigation was found. Ask IBM support for supported options.
  • Restrict network access to DataStage and Cloud Pak for Data endpoints to known internal ranges.
  • Review Redis and platform logs for writes from unexpected sources.

Exploitation

  • CISA SSVC: exploitation none, automatable yes, technical impact total.
  • Not listed in CISA KEV at time of research.
  • EPSS very low (0.00267).
  • No public proof of concept or reports of exploitation found; limited search only.

Our recommendation

  • Confirm the fixed version on IBM bulletin 7289603 and plan the upgrade to 5.4 patch 8 or later.
  • Inventory whether any DataStage on Cloud Pak for Data 5.4.0.0 deployment exists and whether its endpoints are internet-reachable.
  • Apply containment measures until patched and monitor Redis logs.
  • Re-check NVD and CISA KEV, as the NVD record was still awaiting analysis.

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.

Original description (NVD)

IBM DataStage on Cloud Pak for Data 5.4.0.0 allows an unauthenticated user to perform an arbitrary write into shared Redis under any tenant's key. This collapses the platform's credential-encryption boundary and lets an anonymous caller poison any tenant's cached flow parameters.
