Google Chrome: Memory corruption in FileSystem allows sandboxed code execution

CVE-2026-76030High 8.8

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

Google Chrome versions before 156.0.8078.79 contain a memory corruption flaw in the FileSystem component (CWE-119). A remote attacker can use a crafted HTML page to potentially execute arbitrary code inside the browser sandbox. The attack requires that a user opens the malicious page, for example via a phishing link.

Affected

  • Google Chrome before 156.0.8078.79 (Desktop, all platforms)
  • Chromium-based browsers that include the vulnerable code until they ship their own fix (vendor-dependent)

Fixed in

  • Google Chrome 156.0.8078.79 or later (Windows, Mac and Linux, per Chrome Releases)

Workaround

  • None documented. Chrome vendor advisory indicates no mitigation beyond updating.

Exploitation

  • No evidence of in-the-wild exploitation found.
  • Not listed in CISA KEV at the time of research.
  • No public proof-of-concept indexed in Metasploit or Exploit-DB as of 29 Oct 2026.
  • CISA SSVC: Exploitation none, Automatable no, Technical Impact total.

Our recommendation

  • Confirm the Chrome version on all endpoints and update to 156.0.8078.79 or later.
  • Enable automatic updates and, if available, use Chrome Enterprise policies to enforce a minimum version.
  • Verify that other Chromium-based browsers in use (e.g. Edge, Opera, Brave) have received their own updates.
  • Prioritise user devices with Chrome, as browsers are a common entry point for drive-by attacks.

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
