Google Chrome: Memory corruption in Network component allows sandbox code execution

CVE-2026-76029High 8.8

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

Google Chrome versions before 156.0.8078.79 contain a memory corruption flaw (CWE-119) in the Network component. A remote attacker can use a crafted HTML page to potentially execute arbitrary code inside the browser sandbox. The attack requires that a user opens the malicious page, for example via a phishing link or a compromised website.

Affected

  • Google Chrome prior to 156.0.8078.79 (Windows, Mac, Linux)
  • Chromium-based browsers that use the affected Chromium code base (not verified)

Fixed in

  • Google Chrome 156.0.8078.79 (Linux, Windows, Mac)
  • Google Chrome 156.0.8078.80 (Windows, Mac)

Workaround

Unknown. No workaround documented; update Chrome.

Exploitation

  • No known exploitation in the wild; not listed in CISA KEV (as of publication).
  • No public proof-of-concept exploit found.
  • CISA SSVC: Exploitation none, Automatable no, Technical Impact total.

Our recommendation

  • Confirm all Chrome installations run version 156.0.8078.79 or later (156.0.8078.80 on Windows and Mac).
  • Force a browser restart where updates are pending, as the fix only takes effect after relaunch.
  • Roll out the update to managed Windows, Mac and Linux fleets with priority.
  • Check other Chromium-based browsers (Edge, Brave, Opera) for their own patched builds.
  • Recheck NVD and the Chromium issue tracker in about a week for further details.

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
