Google Chrome: Use after free in FileSystem allows code execution in sandbox

CVE-2026-76025High 8.8

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

Google Chrome before 156.0.8078.79 contains a use-after-free flaw in its FileSystem component (CWE-416). A remote attacker can execute arbitrary code inside the browser sandbox by luring a user to a crafted HTML page. The vendor rates the issue High; no user interaction beyond visiting the page is needed, and no authentication is required.

Affected

  • Google Chrome versions before 156.0.8078.79
  • VulDB lists the affected range up to 156.0.8078.73
  • Unknown whether iOS builds are affected

Fixed in

  • Google Chrome 156.0.8078.79 (Windows, Linux), 156.0.8078.79/.80 (Mac), 156.0.8078.79 (Android)

Workaround

  • No vendor-published workaround. Updating and restarting Chrome is the remedy.

Exploitation

  • Not known to be exploited in the wild.
  • Not listed in CISA KEV according to the aggregator sources checked; cisa.gov not verified.
  • No public proof-of-concept found.
  • EPSS: 0.24 %.

Our recommendation

  • Update Chrome to 156.0.8078.79 or later on all endpoints and restart the browser.
  • For managed devices, enforce a minimum Chrome version through the update policy.
  • Check the installed build on all devices, since Chrome 156 received several security updates in a short period.
  • Prioritise users who browse the web or open links from email, as the attack requires a visit to a crafted page.

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
