ThemeREX Education Center: Unauthenticated PHP Object Injection

CVE-2026-66483Critical 9.8

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

The WordPress theme Education Center up to and including version 3.6.12 contains an unauthenticated PHP Object Injection flaw (CWE-502). An attacker can send crafted serialized data to the site without logging in, which may allow manipulation of server-side processing and, depending on other installed components, code execution or data compromise. Any site with the theme active and reachable from the internet is exposed.

Affected

  • Education Center WordPress theme, all versions up to and including 3.6.12
  • Lower bound not stated by the sources

Fixed in

  • Unknown. No confirmed fixed version. Version 3.6.13 is listed by the vendor, but no source states that it fixes CVE-2026-66483.

Workaround

  • No vendor-published workaround found.
  • Deactivate or remove the theme where it is not in active use.
  • Deploy WAF or reverse proxy rules that block serialized PHP object payloads on WordPress endpoints.
  • Review web server and PHP logs for deserialization warnings.

Exploitation

  • Not listed in CISA KEV. CISA SSVC: exploitation none, automatable yes, technical impact total.
  • EPSS 0.00304 (low).
  • No public proof of concept found; this does not prove none exists.
  • Patchstack rates the flaw high priority and expects exploitation.

Our recommendation

  • Identify all WordPress sites using Education Center, including staging sites, and confirm the version.
  • Remove or disable the theme where unused.
  • Where used, request a confirmed fixed version from ThemeREX or Patchstack and apply WAF filtering until then.
  • Check for signs of compromise such as unexpected admin users, modified files and unusual AJAX requests.
  • Replace any unlicensed (nulled) copies with a licensed version.

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
