ThemeREX Tipsy theme: Unauthenticated PHP Object Injection

CVE-2026-62052Critical 9.8

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

The Tipsy WordPress theme up to version 1.6 contains a PHP object injection flaw that can be triggered without authentication over HTTP. An attacker who sends crafted input to the website may be able to manipulate how data is processed on the server, which could lead to code execution or data manipulation depending on the PHP classes present on the site. The CVSS score is 9.8 (Critical), and Patchstack expects the flaw to be used in mass-exploit campaigns.

Affected

  • Tipsy WordPress theme, versions <= 1.6
  • Vendor: ThemeREX (sold on ThemeForest)

Fixed in

  • Unknown. No official patch has been confirmed by the vendor or Patchstack.
  • A later listing version (1.11.0) exists on ThemeForest, but it is not confirmed that it fixes this issue.

Workaround

  • Deactivate or remove the theme if it is not essential.
  • Place the website behind a WAF with virtual patching (for example Patchstack, if available).
  • Restrict access to the site and admin areas and keep backups.

Exploitation

  • Not listed in the CISA KEV catalogue.
  • EPSS is very low (Rapid7: 0%).
  • CISA SSVC: exploitation none, automatable yes, technical impact total.
  • No public proof of concept or exploitation report found.

Our recommendation

  • Identify all sites running Tipsy, including staging sites, and check the installed version.
  • If the version is 1.6 or lower and no fixed release is confirmed, replace the theme with a maintained one or enable a WAF with virtual patching.
  • Check the site for signs of compromise, such as unexpected changes or accounts.
  • Monitor the Patchstack and NVD entries for updates, as NVD status is currently Deferred.

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
