RexCoin WordPress theme: Unauthenticated PHP Object Injection
Summary
The RexCoin WordPress theme up to and including version 1.2.6 contains an unauthenticated PHP object injection flaw (CWE-502). A remote attacker can send crafted data to a public website without logging in, which can let them manipulate server-side processing and potentially run harmful code. Patchstack rates the issue as high priority with a CVSS score of 9.8 and expects it to be exploited, while NVD status is currently Deferred.
Affected
- RexCoin WordPress theme versions up to and including 1.2.6
- Only sites that have this theme installed are affected
Fixed in
Unknown. Sources conflict: ThemeForest lists version 1.2.11 (last updated 23 October 2026), but this has not been confirmed to contain the fix. GPL Chimp lists 1.2.6 as the latest version.
Workaround
- Deactivate and remove the theme if it is not needed. This is the only measure that clearly removes the exposure.
- If the theme must stay online, restrict admin access, keep current backups and ask your WAF or managed WordPress provider whether a virtual patch is available. No confirmed virtual patch for this CVE was found.
Exploitation
- No public proof of concept found.
- No in-the-wild exploitation reports found at the time of writing.
- Not verified against the CISA KEV catalogue.
Our recommendation
- Check all WordPress sites for the RexCoin theme and its version.
- If the theme is found on a public site, remove or replace it first, then check whether the vendor has released a fixed version.
- Review web server logs for unusual requests since 13 October 2026.
- Re-check the Patchstack page and NVD for updates.
Public exploits
PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
