Google Chrome V8: Memory corruption allows code execution in sandbox

CVE-2026-118359High 8.8

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

A memory corruption flaw in the V8 JavaScript engine of Google Chrome before 156.0.8078.73 can be triggered by a crafted HTML page. A remote attacker may potentially execute arbitrary code inside the browser sandbox. Exploitation requires that a user loads the malicious page, for example through a link or phishing. NVD rates it CVSS 8.8, and no in-the-wild exploitation is known as of the latest data.

Affected

  • Google Chrome prior to 156.0.8078.73
  • Chromium-based browsers that use the affected V8 version may also be affected (vendor status unknown)

Fixed in

  • Google Chrome 156.0.8078.73 or later (Linux)
  • Google Chrome 156.0.8078.73 or .74 (Windows, macOS), per release reports; exact build not confirmed in the vendor text

Workaround

  • Unknown. No vendor workaround found; apply the update.

Exploitation

  • No evidence of in-the-wild exploitation found in the research sources.
  • Not listed in CISA KEV in the data reviewed (not checked directly).
  • No public proof-of-concept found.
  • EPSS about 0.28 percent.

Our recommendation

  • Treat as high priority and update Chrome to 156.0.8078.73 or later on all managed endpoints.
  • Restart the browser after the update so the new version is active.
  • Check that other Chromium-based browsers (for example Edge, Brave) and Linux systems with Chrome are updated.
  • Monitor the CISA KEV catalogue and vendor status for changes.

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
