Google Chrome: Memory corruption in Skia graphics library

CVE-2026-118351High 8.8

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

Chrome versions before 156.0.8078.73 contain a memory corruption flaw in Skia, the 2D graphics library used by Chrome. A remote attacker can lure a user to a crafted HTML page and execute arbitrary code inside the browser sandbox. The attack requires the user to visit the malicious page; the sandbox itself is not reported as escaped.

Affected

  • Google Chrome desktop versions prior to 156.0.8078.73

Fixed in

  • Google Chrome 156.0.8078.73 or later (desktop update of 27 October 2026, according to secondary reports)
  • Newer builds (for example 156.0.8078.79 or .80) have been reported; whether they contain this fix is not verified

Workaround

Unknown. No vendor workaround is known; updating is the fix.

Exploitation

  • CISA KEV: not listed
  • Google has not marked this bug as exploited; no public exploit code found
  • CISA SSVC: exploitation none, automatable no, technical impact total

Our recommendation

  • Verify that all Chrome, Edge and other Chromium-based browsers run 156.0.8078.73 or later, ideally the latest stable build
  • Enforce automatic updates through your management tooling
  • Check Chromebooks and the Chromium snap on Ubuntu separately, as their update status was not confirmed
  • Prioritise unmanaged or unpatched browsers, and recheck CISA KEV and Google's advisories in the coming days

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
