Google Chrome: Improper input validation in ReadingList

CVE-2026-118343High 8.8

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

Improper input validation in the ReadingList component of Google Chrome allows a remote attacker to potentially execute arbitrary code inside the browser sandbox. Exploitation requires that a user visits a crafted HTML page, for example a malicious or compromised website or link. Chromium rates the flaw High (CVSS 8.8); code execution is limited to the sandbox and does not by itself give full control over the system.

Affected

  • Google Chrome prior to 156.0.8078.73

Fixed in

  • Google Chrome 156.0.8078.73 or later (Stable update of 27 October 2026)

Workaround

Unknown. No workaround is described by the vendor; updating is the recommended fix.

Exploitation

  • Not known to be exploited in the wild according to the sources.
  • No public proof of concept found.
  • CISA SSVC assessment: exploitation none, not automatable, total technical impact.

Our recommendation

  • Check the Chrome version on all endpoints (chrome://version) and require 156.0.8078.73 or later.
  • For managed fleets, confirm that automatic updates are enabled and not blocked by policies.
  • Restart browsers after updating, as some updates only apply after a restart.
  • Check whether other Chromium-based browsers on endpoints are updated as well.
  • Monitor the Chromium issue and the vendor advisory for changes in exploitation status.

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
