Google Chrome: Memory corruption in HTML allows code execution in sandbox

CVE-2026-118317High 8.8

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

Memory corruption in the HTML engine of Google Chrome desktop versions before 156.0.8078.73 can be triggered by a crafted web page. A remote attacker may execute arbitrary code inside the browser sandbox. The attack requires that a user visits the malicious page, for example through a link, advertisement or compromised website.

Affected

  • Google Chrome desktop before 156.0.8078.73 (Windows, macOS, Linux)

Fixed in

  • Google Chrome 156.0.8078.73 or later, released in the Stable update of 27 October 2026
  • Use the newest Stable build, as later releases fix further issues

Workaround

  • Unknown. No vendor workaround is published; updating is the mitigation.

Exploitation

  • No known exploitation in the wild.
  • No public proof of concept found.
  • Not listed in CISA KEV according to an automated tracker, not verified against the CISA catalogue.
  • EPSS 0.32 %.

Our recommendation

  • Update Chrome on all desktop endpoints to 156.0.8078.73 or the latest Stable build.
  • Restart the browser after the update, as an open browser keeps running the old version.
  • Enforce browser updates through central management and verify installed versions.
  • Prioritise endpoints where staff browse widely or Chrome is not managed centrally.

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
