Google Chrome: Memory corruption in SiteIsolation
Summary
Google Chrome before 156.0.8078.47 contains a memory corruption flaw in SiteIsolation, Chromium's mechanism for isolating websites in separate processes. A remote attacker can use a crafted HTML page to potentially execute arbitrary code inside the browser sandbox. The victim must open the page (user interaction), and the CVE text does not describe a full sandbox escape.
Affected
- Google Chrome (desktop) prior to 156.0.8078.47
- Third-party data (VulDB, not verified by vendor): up to 155.0.8059.84
- Chromium-based Microsoft Edge: affected through the shared Chromium code
- Ubuntu chromium-browser package: not affected (wrapper for the Chromium snap)
Fixed in
- Google Chrome 156.0.8078.47 or later (Linux per secondary sources; Windows/Mac possibly 156.0.8078.48, verify against the vendor advisory)
- Microsoft Edge: see MSRC entry (secondary source lists 156.0.4314.42, not confirmed)
- Ubuntu: refresh the Chromium snap
Workaround
Unknown beyond patching.
Exploitation
- No evidence of exploitation in the wild found; CISA KEV entry not confirmed
- No public proof-of-concept found; the Chromium bug is restricted
- CISA SSVC: exploitation none, automatable no, technical impact total
Our recommendation
- Update Chrome to 156.0.8078.47 or later on all endpoints this week, and verify the exact Windows/Mac build against the vendor advisory
- Ensure Chromium-based Edge is updated through its vendor channel
- On Ubuntu, refresh the Chromium snap instead of relying on apt
- Check managed endpoints for browsers that have not been relaunched after the update
- Apply the whole Chrome 156 update, since it contains other memory corruption fixes
Public exploits
PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.

Original description (NVD)
Memory corruption in SiteIsolation in Google Chrome prior to 156.0.8078.47 allowed a remote attacker to potentially execute arbitrary code inside the sandbox via a crafted HTML page. (Chromium security severity: Medium)
