Google Chrome: Memory corruption in ANGLE allows code execution in sandbox
Summary
A memory corruption flaw in ANGLE, the graphics translation layer of Google Chrome, allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code inside the browser sandbox. The attacker needs the victim to open a crafted HTML page, and no authentication is required. Full system compromise would also require a separate sandbox escape flaw. Chromium-based browsers such as Microsoft Edge use the same code and are also affected.
Affected
- Google Chrome prior to 156.0.8078.47
- Chromium-based browsers that include the same ANGLE code, such as Microsoft Edge (exact vulnerable range unverified)
- Linux distributions: Chromium packages, including the Chromium snap on Ubuntu
- Note: Version ranges in third-party sources are inconsistent and unreliable.
Fixed in
- Google Chrome 156.0.8078.47 (Linux)
- Google Chrome 156.0.8078.47 or 156.0.8078.48 (Windows and macOS, per secondary source)
- Microsoft Edge: a third-party bulletin lists 156.0.4314.42 or later (unverified)
- Linux distributions: fixed packages listed by Debian (DSA 6577-1, DLA 4853-1); contents unverified
Workaround
None published. Updating is the remedy.
Exploitation
- In the wild: Unknown.
- Public proof of concept: none found.
- CISA KEV: not listed.
- CISA SSVC: Exploitation none, Automatable no, Technical Impact total.
Our recommendation
- Check the browser version on all desktops, Android devices and Linux systems, including Chromium snaps or distribution packages.
- Ensure Chrome is at 156.0.8078.47 or later (Linux) or 156.0.8078.47/.48 or later (Windows and macOS).
- Force Chrome and Edge updates through managed deployment and report devices that are still behind.
- Confirm the fixed Edge version with Microsoft's advisory before closing the ticket.
- Monitor CISA KEV and the Chromium bug tracker for changes in exploitation status.
Public exploits
PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.

Original description (NVD)
