Google Chrome: Memory corruption in FileSystem

CVE-2026-113248High 8.8

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

Google Chrome versions before 156.0.8078.47 contain a memory corruption flaw in the FileSystem component. A remote attacker can lure a user to a crafted HTML page and potentially execute arbitrary code inside the browser sandbox. User interaction is required, and the sources do not describe a sandbox escape.

Affected

  • Google Chrome prior to 156.0.8078.47 (desktop)
  • Other Chromium-based browsers and Linux packages: Unknown, check the vendor advisories

Fixed in

  • Google Chrome 156.0.8078.47 or later; prefer the newest stable build
  • Windows and macOS: 156.0.8078.48 reported by a secondary source, not verified against Google's advisory
  • Microsoft Edge: 156.0.4314.42 or later according to HKCERT, not verified against Microsoft's advisory

Workaround

Unknown. No workaround was found; apply the browser update.

Exploitation

  • No public proof of concept or in-the-wild exploitation found in the sources.
  • A third-party tracker lists it as not in CISA KEV (not checked directly).
  • Chromium rates the severity as Low. CISA SSVC: exploitation none, automatable no, total technical impact.

Our recommendation

  • Update all Chrome, Edge and Chromium installs to 156.0.8078.47 or later, preferably the newest stable build.
  • Check Linux snap and Debian packages, and confirm that managed update policies enforce updates.
  • Monitor browser versions across endpoints until the update is verified.

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
