Summary

A memory corruption flaw in the Model component of Google Chrome before 156.0.8078.47 allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code inside the browser sandbox. The attack requires a user to open a crafted HTML page; no authentication is needed. Chromium rates the issue Low, and the sources describe impact only within the sandbox, with no sandbox escape documented.

Affected

Fixed in

  • Google Chrome 156.0.8078.47 (Windows and macOS builds may show 156.0.8078.48)
  • Microsoft Edge 156.0.4314.42 (per HKCERT)
  • Linux distributions: check the vendor status for your distribution (Ubuntu lists its Chromium snap as not affected)

Workaround

  • No workaround known. Applying the update is the mitigation.
  • No vendor-documented interim mitigation.

Exploitation

  • Exploited in the wild: Unknown.
  • Public proof of concept: none found.

Our recommendation

  • Confirm that all managed Chrome and Edge endpoints run 156.0.8078.47 or later (Edge 156.0.4314.42 or later).
  • Verify that automatic browser updates work and restart browsers to apply pending updates.
  • Prioritise this update, as the same release contains other Chromium security fixes.

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
