Google Chrome: Memory corruption in Contacts allows sandbox code execution

CVE-2026-113219High 8.8

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

Google Chrome desktop versions before 156.0.8078.47 contain a memory corruption flaw in the Contacts component (CWE-119). A remote attacker can use a crafted HTML page to execute arbitrary code inside the browser sandbox. The attack requires that a user opens the malicious page, and a full compromise would also need a sandbox escape.

Affected

  • Google Chrome desktop before 156.0.8078.47 (per CVE description)
  • Microsoft Edge before 156.0.4314.42 (per HKCERT, Chromium-based)

Fixed in

  • Google Chrome 156.0.8078.47 (Linux, Android); 156.0.8078.47 or 156.0.8078.48 on Windows and macOS (per secondary reporting)
  • A newer build, 156.0.8078.73, is reported to include this fix. Unconfirmed against the vendor post.
  • Verify the fixed build numbers in the Chrome Releases post before rollout.

Workaround

Unknown. No vendor workaround identified; installing the update is the remedy.

  • Restart the browser after updating, because the fix only takes effect after relaunch.

Exploitation

  • No evidence of exploitation in the wild found.
  • No public proof-of-concept found.
  • CISA SSVC: exploitation none, not automatable, total technical impact.

Our recommendation

  • Verify the Chrome version on all desktops and Android devices and install the newest 156 build.
  • Make sure Microsoft Edge is updated as well.
  • Restart browsers after updating.
  • Monitor Chrome 'exploited in the wild' notices and the CISA KEV catalog.

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
