Google Chrome: Use-after-free in WebAppInstalls on Android

CVE-2026-113217High 8.8

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

A use-after-free vulnerability in the WebAppInstalls component of Google Chrome on Android allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code inside the sandbox. The attacker needs a victim to open a crafted HTML page, so user interaction is required. The NVD description places the code execution inside the sandbox, so full control of the device is not implied by this issue alone. Chromium rates it High, and CVSS 3.1 scores it 8.8.

Affected

  • Google Chrome for Android prior to 156.0.8078.47 (per NVD)
  • A third-party bulletin (HKCERT) also lists desktop builds. This is not confirmed by the vendor and must be checked against Google's advisory.

Fixed in

  • Google Chrome for Android 156.0.8078.47 or later (NVD threshold)
  • Later builds, such as 156.0.8078.79, are reported by secondary sources but not confirmed by the vendor.

Workaround

Unknown. No workaround is documented; updating Chrome is the fix.

Exploitation

  • No evidence of in-the-wild exploitation found for this CVE.
  • No public proof-of-concept found.
  • CISA SSVC: Exploitation none, Automatable no, Technical Impact total.

Our recommendation

  • Verify that Chrome for Android is at 156.0.8078.47 or later, preferably the newest build.
  • Ensure Play Store auto-updates are enabled on company and BYOD devices.
  • For managed fleets, confirm the update has reached every device, since rollout is staged.
  • Prioritise company phones and devices without MDM.

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
