Google Chrome: Use after free in Navigation allows sandboxed code execution

CVE-2026-113181High 8.8

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

Google Chrome before 156.0.8078.47 contains a use-after-free vulnerability in the Navigation component (CWE-416), rated High by Chromium. A remote attacker can execute arbitrary code inside the browser sandbox by luring a user to a crafted HTML page. Exploitation requires that the user visits the page, and full system compromise would normally need a second sandbox-escape flaw.

Affected

  • Google Chrome versions before 156.0.8078.47
  • VulDB lists the affected range up to 155.0.8059.84
  • Chromium-based browsers that ingest the same Chromium fix may be affected until they ship their own update

Fixed in

  • Google Chrome 156.0.8078.47 for Linux
  • Windows and Mac: sources differ between 156.0.8078.47 and 156.0.8078.48; confirm against the vendor advisory
  • Newer Stable builds (156.0.8078.79/.80 cited in secondary sources) are available and should be preferred

Workaround

No workaround needed, a patch is available. Restart the browser after the update, because Chrome applies updates on relaunch.

Exploitation

  • In the wild: no evidence found; no CISA KEV entry or vendor 'exploited' flag found
  • Public proof of concept: none found
  • EPSS: 0.00443 (low predicted exploitation probability)
  • CISA SSVC: Exploitation none, Automatable no, Technical Impact total

Our recommendation

  • Update Google Chrome to the latest Stable build on all workstations and restart the browser
  • Verify build numbers on endpoints, including Chromium-based browsers such as Microsoft Edge, and enforce a minimum version via patch tooling
  • On Linux, check whether Chrome comes from Google's repository or a distribution package
  • Prioritise internet-facing user workstations within the standard browser patch cycle

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
